How BCC came to be...

My journey into face and body painting began in 2005 at a theme park, during the blazing heat of summer. I was 16 years old, working my very first job, transforming children and adults into fabulous creatures. I remember thinking, “Why isn’t there a brush-on body paint that’s sweat-resistant?” The long, hot days were exhausting—but I had fallen in love. I wasn’t just painting faces—I was helping create magical memories. That wasn’t the start of Body Color Cosmetics, but it was the moment I stepped into the vivid, transformative world of face and body art.

As the years went on, I noticed a major gap in the cosmetic and body paint industry. Artists, performers, and enthusiasts needed a water-resistant product that wouldn’t sting the eyes like alcohol-activated formulas. They needed something portable, something that didn’t require electricity or an airbrush setup. Simply put—they needed a brush-on solution that could perform under pressure, without sacrificing skin safety or color payoff.

Fast forward: I had just wrapped up filming the reality show Skin Wars and returned home to the Carolinas. I was going through a divorce and asking myself, “What’s next? Surely this isn’t all…” That night, I had a dream—yes, it sounds silly—but I dreamed I owned a body paint company that offered colorful, water-resistant paints in brush-on form. When I woke up, the thought hit me hard: “The reason it doesn’t exist yet is because I’m supposed to create it.”

That dream sparked something real. I dove headfirst into research, fueled by a lifetime of curiosity and a decade of hands-on experience in face painting, cosmetology, and permanent tattooing. I studied cosmetic formulation, safety regulations, and manufacturing logistics. The passion was there—but the funds weren’t.

At first, I tried to raise money through Kickstarter. But just a week into the campaign, I broke my ankle and was unable to walk. I decided to pause everything—until I could fully stand on my own again, both literally and figuratively.

By October 2017, I launched a GoFundMe instead. Unlike Kickstarter, GoFundMe allowed me to raise money without a deadline. Slowly but surely, the support came in. On January 1, 2018, I reached my goal. That was the day Body Color Cosmetics officially began.

Over the next year, I poured everything into making it real—sourcing clean, effective ingredients, choosing the right packaging, partnering with a manufacturing studio, filing all the legal paperwork, and fulfilling every kit I’d promised to my early supporters.

Finally, on April 1, 2019, Body Color Cosmetics launched its first official day of sales online—created for artists, entertainers, and colorful humans everywhere who needed a long-lasting, water-resistant solution that didn’t compromise on creativity, comfort, or quality.
